HYPOXIC TRAINING CAMP AT PAJULAHTI

Pajulahti is one of the few places in Finland where athletes can enjoy the benefit of living and training at high altitude. Extended exposure to hypoxia can improve aerobic fitness by increasing hemoglobin mass.

If you want to get more information about our hypoxic facilities or need advice about appropriate hypoxic dosing, call our hypoxia experts (+358 447755225) or send a message to [email protected]. For reservations, please contact our sales representative Jaakko Erkinheimo (+358 447755215, [email protected]). Full board accommodation at our altitude rooms costs 99 €/day/person.

Our facilities offer 15 hypoxic hotel rooms and an additional alpine training room. This training room offers a variety of cardio equipment (Woodway treadmill mat, Gymstick Pro ski ergometer, Wattbike bicycle ergometer and spinning bike), as well as equipment to support training (massage table, scale, and oxygen saturation meter), a washing machine and a dryer.

Extended exposure to hypoxia can improve aerobic fitness by increasing hemoglobin mass. On the other hand, altitude training also causes more stress on the body, which can be accompanied by risks and adverse effects. Thus, it is not advisable to use hypoxic exposure to get into shape, the fitness status should already be solid before the hypoxia exposure. During hypoxia it is not advisable to aim for weight loss either. Moreover, training must be modified and possibly lightened.

Before coming to altitude, we recommend athletes to plan the altitude training camp together with experts. We also recommend running a blood test to determine ferritin level and the need for iron supplementation.

During the high-altitude camp, we recommend balancing the increased load by sleeping more, increasing carbohydrate intake, and drinking more fluids. During the first days of the camp, you should also train lighter than normal. In addition, we also recommend to closely follow training load, life stress and rest, as well as blood oxygen saturation to know how well the body is adapting to hypoxic conditions. We also recommend daily weighing and monitoring the color of urine to try avoiding the risk of energy deficit and dehydration. As a supplement, in addition to iron, consider antioxidants and immune system supplements due to the higher oxidative stress caused by hypoxic conditions.
